|Grab handle and more pockets |
on the upgraded Load-it-Up Laptop Slipcase...
The revised design includes a grab handle, an interior zippered pocket and an optional patch pocket underneath the bellows pocket.
This means that not only will this case still carry around your laptop, charge cord and mouse, the additional features in this version will also protect your important small stuff (like USB sticks) and — if you want — even a pen or stylus and notepad.
Plus, with a handle, it's now much easier to grab and go.
In addition, as a bonus for those of you who avoid doing math as much as possible, I put together a couple of charts of common laptop measurements (in both metric and imperial) so that you can simply look up the values and then cut your fabric to suit.
Here are some pics of my test project.

The laptop for which this case was made is a netbook, meaning that its screen size is in the neighbourhood of 10". It fits inside while "wearing" a folio style case, which is why it's bigger than the first one that I made for a similar size computer.

Here is the new interior zippered pocket that can safely house your memory cards and USB sticks. It's sized to do just that job (meaning that it's not deep) but of course, you can use a larger piece of pocket lining fabric to make it bigger if that's your preference.

The grab handle is padded for carrying comfort.

For those who like to know, the fabric above is Betz White's Stitch from a collection that she did for Robert Kaufman (part of a gift package that I received two years ago).
Naomi volunteered to test this pattern for a larger laptop and here are a few photos of her results.

This is definitely a version for someone who wants to stand out, what with the hot pink lining and pink floral print!
FYI, Naomi's laptop is 15" wide by 1" thick by 10" deep, which is much bigger than either of mine.

And here is a look at the bonus pen and notebook (or whatever) pocket under the bellows pocket.

I was a bit hand-tied in terms of recruiting for testing on this project, since one would have to have a laptop in mind and probably a specific need for a case in order to want to make it. So much appreciated, Naomi, for stepping up with your testing efforts. :-)
The Load-it-Up Laptop Slipcase is a quick sew and easy to put together, even with the additional features. You can definitely whip this up in a leisurely day.
