Thought I'd join in on the festivities over at
SewSweetness.com this year and enter my newly designed
MyTie Makeover Mini Bag. (Just for the record, I made the first one between Oct 12 and 13; the second
one — scroll down — between Nov 2 and 5.)
The pattern has yet to be released, but I have been in testing mode for several
weeks, making five different little purse designs out of (one single) men's neck
ties. I picked this one for my first entry in
Purse Palooza 2014 just
because I love the orange. (I didn't always love orange; maybe it's one of those
"changing tastes as you grow old" things... LOL)
This project is dedicated to my dad... and perhaps to dads everywhere. Enjoy the
pics and come back to my blog in the coming weeks to check on the pattern if
you're interested.

This project was part of an "upcycling and repurposing" effort. Materials used
are the following: exterior is from a tie purchased on eBay for $1.50, interior
lining used to be a restaurant table cloth, interior pocket had a past life as a
bed sheet, button was part of a multi unit package purchased at a dollar store,
and the chain is part of a belt that was a souvenir from Aruba many years ago.
Here now is my second
MyTie, fashioned out of a 99¢ tie set — the patch
pocket inside is from the matching hanky — and lined with fabric that used to be
a bed sheet. The blue and white poly/rayon cord (all 20 feet of it) was $1.55
from a discount store.

For this one, I used the "keeper" from the original tie to attach a D ring that
can keep keys handy.

The design process for how I arrived at this bag was documented in several blog
posts that actually culminates in a tutorial for how to make it. Start
here
if you want to give it a try without the actual pattern.
