Travelling with my Travel Projects

Gorgeous rhododendrons in Victoria!
About six weeks ago, my other half and I were away on the "wet coast" (Vancouver Island) for five days and it ended up being remarkably sunny for the majority of our trip. It's a crap shoot when it comes to getting good weather out there, but Victoria was unusually kind to us during our stay. The rhododendrons were in bloom and they were amazing!

But I thought I'd post about travelling with my assorted travel-related sewing projects, because what is the point of designing/making something that doesn't get used as intended? And despite my lukewarm relationship with it, I even took along my Professional Tote, because we recently got a new laptop and I needed to store it in the centre pocket for protection. (The unintended use of Peltex for that pocket is a good thing sometimes. And yes, I might have to whip up a case for the laptop.)

Flat packable...
As you can see here, both the Crafty Cosmetics Caddy and Cutting Corners Collapsible Travel Tray (which AllFreeSewing.com respectively calls the Handy Dandy DIY Makeup Organizer and the Space Saving Travel Organizer) can be packed flat inside a ziplock bag.

Toss it into your suitcase and you can be organized no matter where you go! My tray sat on the bedside table and was used every night to store my watch, ring and necklace.

For the first time ever, I unpacked my daily makeup needs and put them inside the cosmetics caddy; it sat on the countertop in the bathroom for the duration. Very handy if I do say so myself!

Oh, and mustn't forget: hubby brought along his electronics gadgets in his mp3 player carrying case. I was very tempted to bring along my Hot Hues Convertible Crossbody Fooler Bag, but ultimately decided against it because I didn't want it to get rained on.

When I first got back into sewing, I discovered that there are a lot of creative projects out there that are "organizer related". Someday when my toiletry bag finally bites the dust, I may have to look into making a replacement, as complex as that one might be. (It is made up of four triangular shaped compartments that roll up into a rectangular case. The compartment sides are made of plastic so as to be transparent, but the ends are fabric, like the exterior. That would be an advanced project, I'm sure.)

Have you made something that you absolutely cannot travel without?
